Overwhelmed by Life – 6 Steps to Shake it Off

In Healthy YouMotivationWork & Kids | 0 comments

Have you ever had one of those weeks when you just feel like you’re running around in circles getting absolutely nowhere, just overwhelmed by life? Well, that’s me this week. The house is a mess, we are foodless, the kids are being super whiny and I’ve just put hair serum on my face thinking its moisturizing cream.  Sure my face will be all bouncy and soft but what I’m meant to be doing is working on my business and all I keep thinking about is the million things I haven’t done yet.
ARGH – it’s time to stop, reset and refocus. (That’s me giving myself a talking to)

Here are some top tips on how to get through those overwhelming days and get stuff done:

1. Bite size it
Break it down. Focus on the number 1 most important task right now.  The one that is going to give you that sense of accomplishment and sit down and do it. You’ll feel so much better, I promise.

2. Take Flower Essences
These actually work to help calm you down and get some clarity. I use both the Australian Bush Flower Creative Essence and Bach’s Rescue Remedy. And the best thing is kids can take them too.

3. Go to bed early
It feels counter intuitive when you have so much to do but make sleep your priority (if you can). It will help keep any anxiety in check and you will actually get more done. Plus a good night’s sleep eases wrinkles. Actually this is not based on any actual medical knowledge on my behalf; I just like to think that it’s true!

4. Practice deep breathing
Take 5 minutes to practice some alternate nostril breathing, it will help calm your mind and revitalize you at the same time.

5. Laugh until your belly hurts
When was the last time you did this? Watch some old comedies, play a joke on your hubby, do something fun that you did when you were a kid or head to the movies with a girlfriend. It really puts life into perspective.

6. Stop trying to be perfect
Lose the pressure of being a super mum, super wife and super entrepreneur and tell yourself that “I am enough”. Have the strength to be imperfect and let go of who you think you should be. Check out this TED talk on the power of vulnerability.
